OUR MISSION
TO ENRICH STUDENTS’ lives so they will become future leaders and change the world, serve their communities and all humanity, and achieve their individual personal and professional goals.

OUR VALUES
Success is defined as continually moving beyond your personal & professional best.

Concern for others is our utmost endeavor…we are not shaping individuals to be the same, but have excellent skills and abilities in their own unique way.

Responsibility builds trust, integrity and excellence which is determined throughout an individuals daily actions, decisions, and language.

Inclusion recognizes that together we succeed. Once a SSS TRIO participant, you are family.

INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION
SSS SERVES 200 DSU STUDENTS. The staff gets to know each student and his/her needs through SSS exclusive events and workshops. Students meet one-on-one with an SSS staff member each semester for an individual service plan to evaluate their course plans, identify areas of need, and set personal goals. While other students on campus compete for computers, SSS participants have a multimedia computer lab for their exclusive use.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT
EVERY COLLEGE STUDENT is in need of money. Freshman and Sophomore SSS participants who meet income eligibility guidelines and maintain satisfactory Academic Progress may be eligible for additional TRIO Grant funding.

ACADEMIC ADVISING AND SUPPORT
ONE OF THE PERKS of being an SSS participant is early registration. This means you register for classes prior to other students on campus. Staff members are available toanswer questions; and because you have early access to registration, you will likely be able to get into the classes you need.

WE HAVE THE INSIDE TRACK to the Academic Success Center. The ASC provides Writing Center assistance, peer tutoring, Supplemental Instruction and other subject-specific tutoring.

PREPARATION AND GUIDANCE
WANT AN ALL-EXPENSE-PAID TRIP TO SUCCESS? The SSS program sponsors a pre-college academic success program called “Bridge”. Students move into the university one week early and spend their time learning about the university, preparing for the demands of college, and meeting other students, faculty, and staff. Additionally, participants are encouraged to be part of the SSS Freshman Seminar which further guides students through their first year of college.

CULTURAL GATHERINGS
IN SSS WE COME TOGETHER over food, fun, and laughter often because to succeed academically we must also feed our whole selves. We celebrate everyday in small ways and throughout the year in big ways. Each year brings new adventures in various on and off campus activities such as: bowling, theater productions, sports activities, as well as, academic achievement banquets and orientation luncheons.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE? • U.S. Citizen or naturalized citizen• 1st Generation Students (neither parent completed a bachelors degree)• Students who are Income Eligible (determined by federal standards)
